Sunscreens don’t just feel icky…

June 14, 2010

The Environmental Working Group has released its yearly sunscreen review, doing the job the FDA was ostensibly created for.   (Does the Food and Drug Administration ever make any call that’s not in a corporation’s best interest?)

Add this to the major, widespread health effects of widespread vitamin D deficiency, and it gives plenty or reason to reconsider the wisdom of daily sunscreen use.

Caveat:  I am posting this out of self-justification, pure  and simple.   Sunscreens gross me out.  A hat and shirt sleeves, I should definitely use more.

This is so funny! I thought of YOU when I heard about this, just after I said to the person relaying the story to me, ‘yup, yup, i KNEW they would figure this out about sunscreens sooner or later – how on earth could spreading chemicals daily on the biggest organ of your body be good for ya, huh?’ (ok, well, i tamed it down a little bit. didn’t want to scare them off.)

Just goes to show. Like i said, i think about you a lot.

PS Tilly makes the best hats in the WORLD, I swear! Mine has been on the most amazing adventures and STILL is fabulously perfect. I can’t get over it. All right, I didn’t try every single hat in the world. But I went through tons of hats before my Tilly – and I haven’t needed any since. That was about 5-6 summers ago!
